Birthday fun!

Well, I did it again. I turned 39 for the 4th year running. I know what your thinking, but it's true. Ask my kids they'll tell you. I had a great birthday this year. It started out on Friday night when I got home and found a new lamp in my bedroom--that man of mine really pays attention! Then on Saturday I got these two new books from the kids. (Somehow they ended up on the hubbies Amazon wish list, weird huh?)
For lunch I choose one of the few places that makes the whole family happy, Noodles & Company. I roll with a pretty picky gang. so I love this place. I get good food, and they get plain food. Look at these handy chopstick holders that kept us all very happy while we waited for out food.

"I did it!" How darn cute is this child of mine?
This one looks a little skeptical about the chop sticks actually working... that's my boy, always thinking!
Just in case you didn't understand plain food, its nothing but noodles and salt. The chopsticks did jazz it up, don't you think?
One of the other great reasons I chose Noodle & Co. was that it was in close proximity to Quilting Adventures. I sent Don and the kids to the comic shop so I could buy a little birthday fabric. I am sneaky, aren't I? I just had to go back for another round of fat quarters for more Betty aprons. I love these Robert Kaufman prints.
I didn't see these last week, but what the heck, right? Love me some fruity goodness.

After I met back up with the fam, we headed off to Movieland to see Gnomeo and Juliet in 3D. It was the perfect Saturday afternoon movie. So funny and so darn cute! I have to say it's as good as Shrek and The Incredibles, and I could see them 100 times. Oh wait, I have seen them 100 times. Silly me.
We spent the rest of the night cuddled up watching a Cupcake Wars marathon--it was almost as good as eating real cupcakes.

Pack-n-Go Placemats!

You all know how much I love my cupcakes! The Modern June Cupcake is going OILCLOTH!

This Pack-n-Go Placemat is just like the original Modern June placemats in size, shape and quality. But we have added chalk cloth to the reverse, a loop for chalk and a tie for easy travel.

Now taking orders! This will make a great for Christmas or birthday gift. Every mom with a toddler needs on of these! FYI bibs are next! Cuteness!

Suzanne, (my assistant) you asked for it! This one if for you! Surprise! I know little Joseph will love it!

YUMMY CUPCAKE APRONS!!!

YUMMY CUPCAKE APRONS!!!, originally uploaded by ModernJune.

How yummy are these? Do you like June's new dress? Very Modern June, don't you think?

Okay, here is a weird story about the word "yummy" and how I started using it...

When Don and I were married, we lived in the DC area where I made my living as a freelance costumer. I worked in all of the DC theaters (Arena Stage, Wolf Trap Opera, National Shakespeare), and I worked on as many movies as I could. In between the big jobs I did alterations and special projects. One of these special projects was for Patch Adams, Doctor and Clown. I added some pockets to one of his Doctor jackets that already had dozens of pockets (some were even waterproof pockets). When I met with him for his fitting, he kept calling everything YUMMY. I thought that was a very silly way of describing a garment, but it stuck! Here I am 13 years later calling my cupcake aprons YUMMY!

Cupcake

Martha is having having cupcake week! OH MY! How yummy, check out this photo slideshow that she has featuring the wonderful cupcake shops around the country. The photos of the shops and the cupcakes are equally wonderful!

When I was a girl my birthday cake was always Strawberry with Pink Fluffy Icing. I have to say I really want to make these Strawberry cupcakes from Sprinkles! Strawberry puree has got to be much tastier than the red dye my mom used!

Great news for my cupcake aprons I found some wonderful green and blue polka dot fabric so the Cupcake Collection will soon be back in production next week! I miss my Cupcake Aprons a lot! In the mean time if you are in need of a cute present for a little girl don't forget Tutti Fruity Designs has an Exclusive Pink Cupcake Apron from Modern June

As you all might have noticed I have given up my quest to blog 365 days this year! Life got the better of me! We are having some hard times with Aidan, he is needing a lot of extra care of late. Blogging was the first thing to go. I have rearranged my schedule so I can sew early in the morning instead of typing. I miss chatting with you all. I won't go away for long but I won't be able to blog daily for now.

Now go make some cupcakes, I know I am!!!! Problem is not eating them all ; ) If the cupcakes you make are extra pretty take a chance at Martha's cupcake contest!

wish me luck

Today I entered a contest for aprons! Craftzine.com is having an apron contest...

We know there are lots of wonderful homemade aprons out there, and we want to see them. Taunton books has generously offered a copy of Prairie Girl to each of the five winners, and we'll be featuring the aprons in the Curio section of the next issue of CRAFT. Send photographs of the aprons you've been working on to curio[at]craftzine[dot]com by November 12th. (Be sure to include your website or Etsy shop!)

Now I have never one a single thing, well 50 bucks on my 24th birthday but that is it. So I am not really expecting much. But it is fun to wish! Right?

This aprons claim to fame is an appearance on TLC's LA Ink. I also find it too cute that people usually buy this for the best friends birthday. Once I had a man have me overnight it to his girlfriend, also a birthday gift. It is all about connecting with people and making them happy. An apron has that ability by its very nature.

Aidan turns 7

Aidan is 7. I have no idea how this happened I am shocked to have my little ones be not so little any more! I am done letting them grow up. That it no more getting bigger around here. I know every mom says this but it is true it goes by way to fast. Last week I was changing diapers and nursing. The day after that I was teaching them to walk. The next day we were learning the alphabet. GEEZ.

Well in reality I had a "Super Mario Party 7" birthday party to plan. Ok what in the world was I thinking when I let my kids pick whatever party they wanted to have? This is getting harder. I had no idea what to do. It would help if I were playing game cube with them at night. But that is Modern June time and Don is charge of all video gaming!

So what do you do at a "Super Mario party 7" birthday party? Pass off almost all planning to the Hubbie and the kids.

This cracked me up! Watching the Naruto marathon and blowing up balloons. Actually those are Boo's and Bob-oms. We filled up the kiddy pool with them and the boys stomped on them. You know they loved that! This pool was at the end of a obstacle course that Maddie put together.

Pin the mustache on Mario! Don did Mario up on photo shop and then printed it out on to four sheet of paper and spray mounted it up on the poster board. He rocks!

And of course every party must have a pinata. This is a Disco ball pinata turned Bob-omb. Oh that Don is so clever! Here is a party tip... if you have a pinata you must have a "make it all better bag", this a bag of extra toys and treats. You give this to the little ones that don't get a lot of candy and are really upset about it. Until Don and I realized that this was an option we were never ever having another one of those upsetting things!

For cake we opted for cupcakes! Cupcake that were to resemble mushrooms. I hoped that these could be a bit more realistic but they are fun enough. Don came up with the idea to put white chocolate chips into the icing for the spots. I love that man! When I run out if ideas he is there to save the day!

We had great fun!
