Japanese Garden

Dear Husband took the kids to Maymont two weeks ago, and ever since Dear Son has been wanting to go back to see the Japanese Garden again. Earlier this week, even as he was running a fever, he asked if today was the day we can go back. Yesterday he was feeling better so off we went. Here are just a few of the photos I snapped, there are plenty more on my flickr account if you want to see more!

Indoors Out

Picking Garden, originally uploaded by ModernJune.

I made these great Oilcloth Pillows back in April, I am so excited to finally get them up on the website today. The are not only fun and colorful but they are also very weather friendly, summer showers won't be a problem.  You gotta love a pop of color that won't get all soggy. Yah, oilcloth!

Happy Summer my Peeps!

Fourth of July Tablecloths

Red, White and Blue

I have two great ready-made tablecloths in stock that would be perfect for the upcoming Fourth of July Parties. They have been in a local shop on consignment all spring and are a tad shop-worn, there are a few marks that should come right out with some elbow grease! They are marked down and need a good party invitation! Check them out, blue lace and red gingham!

Don't forget Modern June is you home for fantastic custom made oilcloth tablecloths.  Square, Round, Oval and Oblong, you name it we make it!

shipping and handling

Alright ya'll he is all packaged up who wants him for the summer? Just joking! I came up from the studio to find this, he was so pleased with himself. Now, whatever you do don't tell him you saw this photo, he would never let me take another picture of him again! I know I am a really bad momma! Who could resist!

happy dad day!

We had a really great day celebrating Dad Day yesterday. We started the day with Chocolate Chip pancakes, handmade cards and a small but sneaky gift. Dear Husband was bamboozled at For the Love of Chocolate, they were there getting a gift for their "Hampa" (my father-in-law) when they saw a chocolate computer. They told Dear Husband that it was for Hampa, but really they were buying it for him! Sneaky monkeys!

We then spent the morning lazily making this dude for dinner at the in-laws. Cute isn't he! We loved the T-Rex that got a crafty shout out last week. So when Dear Husband brought a pretty watermelon home of Friday we knew we had to get our edible craft on.

Dear Son wasn't feeling great so we decided to keep it low-key so we headed to Movie Land to see UP! Wow, that was really sad. I had a good cry but still laughed a lot!

Hope you all had a great day too!

gardenosis

While Maddie and I were chilling on the hammock this evening she got very serious and said "Mamma, I have a serious disease -- it's called Gardenosis!"  Ha-ha!   What a gal, she even got her brother out in the garden today!  I love her!

If money was not object...

I am hating my home, you know it happens, the walls need painting, the 15 year old couch still needs replacing, and all your beloved "stuff" is just flat out boring.  Since I have been feeling this way for a few days it was funny that I stumbled upon this article yesterday over at Apartment Therapy, Cheap Ways to Feel Better About Your Home well we are certainly in need of a fresh can of paint. Somethings gotta change and stat!

But let's skip the practical low-budget possibilities and lets dream a little! IF money was not object I would...

... tear down my shed and build up a proper studio.
... put a set of french doors on to the studio and give Don back his office back.
... turn that ugly broken-down bathroom (turned storage room) into a laundry room
... make the pantry into a powder room
... turn the tiny coat closet in to a teeny pantry.
... replace the bookshelves in the foyer with a gorgeous old amoire, coats gotta go somewhere!

And while I am dreaming big, a master bathroom addition would be nice too!

New Deluxe Splat Mats

New Deluxe Splat Mats, originally uploaded by ModernJune.

The other day I realized that I only had one of our large floor mats on the shelf, how did that happen? Where did they all go? Check out all of the Deluxe Splat Mats I made yesterday. There are some new combos and some old favorites. You can use these colorful mats under a messy eater or artist. The are also very useful as tablecloths, use them to adorn a small table. They are 47-48" inches square so they are perfect for card and bistro tables.

You can find all of these and more over at our Modern June Etsy Shop!

Modern June Oilcloth Totes

Modern June Market Totes, Black Istanbul and Red Fruity, are fully lined and perfect for everyday, picnics and the pool.  Oh yeah, and the farmers market!

How about this bunch of Shopper totes?  Bright and perfect for the summer!
The Shopper are taller and unlined, they make an economical alternative to our original Market Tote.  Pretty and practical!
Modern June has a special bottom liner in all our oilcloth totes for added strength and stability.

How about the cute newbies?  You know I love-love-love to applique with oilcloth!    These are really fun and extra special--- Cherries and Squirrels!!!

And last but not least a fun new twist on The Shopper, and my ode to rick rack!  I really want one of the red fruity totes for myself, but the yellow poppy tote would do as well.  Both of these oilcloths are old favorites of mine!

I just love to recycle jars into pretty hanging votives, I have done them of years now!  But this time I took this idea and mixed it with this tutorial and this tutorial and made them my own!

Start off with you handy dandy jar collection, you know you have one...

Make sure they are clean and dry!

While my girl Martha used some fancy class paint.  I one the other hand

I wanted this to be a $2.00 project!

All you need is a heavy gauge wire --two dollars at Target-- and a couple of pairs of pliers.

Croquet

I love these people!

A night at the movies!

Dear Husband and I took the kids to the Henrico Theatre in Highland Springs last night to see The Wizard of Oz on the big screen. I've never had a chance to see it on the classic on the big screen, what a great place to enjoy the beloved film. The Henrico Theatre has been lovingly renovated to it's former Art Deco Glamor here a few fun photos for you. Check out the summer schedule for other fun events. See ya there!

Yes, that is right, I just had to take photos of the bathroom signs!

Wouldn't it be great if...

...I had this fire pit?

...my back yard had a torch walk?

...my broken down pergola was turned into this?

...if I lived on a lake?

I think I need this never-ending rain to stop so I could get out of this house and play outside!

Junk Market Style loves Oilcloth!

Yesterday the Today Show featured one of the my favorite junk loving designers,  Sue Whitney! Sue is one of the talented ladies behind Junk Market Style!  I have long been a fan, eating up the books and magazine features.  Much of my decor deserves their credit!

Sue was on the show giving us loads of great tips for selling our extra junk at yard sales!  But what got the attention of one of our wonderful customers was the oilcloth that she used through out the yard sale set.   There was lot of bright and fun oilcloth used on the tables and signs!   For the tables she used brightly colored oilcloth yardage to draw in customers.  I love what she did for the signage,  she pulled out the flower patten from the oilcloth and got crafty!   By doing so one is sure to intrigue any and all lookie loo's, I mean when someone goes that far to attract attention, you gotta think that they are going to have some fantastic loot for sale!  It is all about the details, isn't it?

Check out the Today Show video on the Junk Market Style Website and then go and see the still photos on the Today Show Site

And a big thanks goes out to you all that are keeping me informed about all the great oilcloth press and projects that are out there.  Joe, you were so kind to let me know about this!  To every reader, thanks for hanging out and most of all thanks for your constant support.

For the Love of Chocolate

Two days ago my Cute Husband and I spent the day together for our anniversary.  We just so happened to find ourselves in front of For the Love of Chocolate!   It is a Richmond must.  For me it is all about the dark chocolate covered marshmallows, Cute Husband gets a $4.oo cookie and the kids get lots of fun foiled covered chocolates and a stick of salt candy.  Here is just a tiny bit of what you might like!

Summer of chocolate goodness!

best hour of the day

The best hour of the day for me is often the first hour of the day.  Just me, myself and I.

15 minutes to attend to something that kept me tossing and turning last night, a simple email and life is fine again.  Peak out side to check out my late twilight gardening.  Things actually looked good considering it was DARK, when I was chopping the privet from hell down.

2o minute power walk and a chance meeting with a new friend.

35 minutes in the garden before the sun hits!

Life is good!
