Shipping for the holidays!

Here is the Modern June/Oilcloth Addict shipping department! I know you're going to be shocked out how much space we have, it's just short of a warehouse isn't it? Ah, it may be tiny but it's mighty, especially since I've got my good friend Kathie helping me get everything out. I've had fun decorating it up for the our holiday rush!

The window is covered with red and green gingham aprons and layered a string of tiny holiday banners! I love displaying as many vintage aprons as possible.
A piece of cotton candy cane fabric covers up a multitude of sins on the radiator.
My antique sewing machine becomes home to trims and ribbon for wrapping up gift and orders, I topped it with a kitschy tree topper for added fun.
I love the way it looks at night the best!
The rubber maid drawers hold all the envelopes, business cards and oilcloth strips that we use to make every package special! Isn't my old stool the best? LOVE IT!

Have you decorated your work space yet? Leave a link in the comment section, I want to see it!!! Happy Holidays!

Recycled Spool Wreath

Well it took me about 8 months to make this fun wreath but I finally did it! Last winter I asked my in-studio stitcher Nicole to start collecting all the empty thread spools; I didn't tell her what I planned to use them for because I wanted it to be a surprise for her and my other studio working Junies. My staff and I spend a lot of time in "the cave" during the holidays and I wanted to make a pretty place for us all to create within.
Supplies:
75 recycled spools of different shapes and sizes.
12" wire wreath form
2-3 packages of fabric covered wire
elastic thread (not pictured)
Spool of Ribbon (not pictured)

Cost: $9.00

1) Start off by removing the stickers on the thread spools and cut all the long pieces of wire in half.
Hind Sight Note: If I could do it all again, I would spray paint the form white! Seeing the green form between the cracks is driving me mad.
2) Tie on larger spools at the 6 cross points and then fill in the spools, in between. I started off only using the wire but I found that using the elastic tread was better for layering on the spools and filling in the cracks. The elastic allows you to adjust the spools till you get them in just the right spot. Keep layering on thread spools until you have filled in the wreath.

3) Lastly, tie on a pretty bow and enjoy!
I've got some more holiday decorations for the Modern June Studios, some come back tomorrow!

Watch for us on HGTV!

Tonight's the night! "15 Fresh Handmade Gift Ideas", a one-hour special for HGTV that will air initially at 7pm Eastern tonight and then again on December 3rd at 2pm. The show will feature cool gifts from Etsy.com offered up by hosts Taniya Nayak and Michele Beschen (totally cool), it's a fast-paced look at fresh, handmade gift ideas from around the world.

How did this happen? About 8 weeks ago Modern June was one of the 100 Etsy Shops contacted and asked to submit their wares for consideration. I was asked to send in our Oilcloth Cat Mats!!! But here's the catch, none of know if we made the show or not, so tune in and check it out. If you see an oilcloth pet mat rest assured I'll be screaming for joy! For now check out all of the fantastic pet items that also made the great gift list at the HGTV's Handmade Holiday page.

I am thankful for my crafty friends, the Richmond Craft Mafia, and my fabric junky friends.

I am thankful for a feature in Country Living magazine, getting to go both of the Country Living Fairs and for the folks at Country Living and Stella for asking me to come and chat at the Atlanta fair.

I am thankful for all the great shops that carry my loot and all the great people that buy it! It's an honor!

I am thankful for my editors Roxnane and Charlotte at Wiley for letting me write my book "Sewing with Oilcloth" and supporting me every step of the way. I am thankful for Stephanie, my literary agent, that helped guide me into new territory!

I am so very thankful to the people that believe in me and Modern June, I couldn't do it with out you all.

Reality Check

The little sign up in the corner was supposed to help me make a change this year, and although that little sign is in plain view, recent events have shown me that I've totally missed it's message. This week I've been reminded that I have to love more, work smarter and play harder.

For my beloved Junie friends that have just said good bye to loved ones: I wrap you in a mental tear filled hug and I wish you comfort. For my long lost friend that is prepping for surgery while caring for her children and mother-in-law, I give you all my love and hope, and I say "kick that mass in the ass!" And on a happier note, to my friend and Junie that has a whole house to pack up this week, I am wishing you a bigger and brighter future in your new home! May it be filled with love and laughter by Christmas!

Each one of these women has helped me become who I am as a business woman, and I couldn't be luckier!!! I love you all so very much. Please take care, and know that my thoughts are with you. I'm off to love more, work smarter and play harder!

A Modern June Holiday!

For the holiday hostess, four lovely aprons made exclusively for Modern June by Sew OnoNicole Lee Designs and yours truly.

Our hot mama apron, the Holiday Eva Apron is very retro with the Santa's.

What would a Christmas be at Modern June without our Oilcloth Tree Skirts? Choose from polka dots, gingham, or lace. Most prints are available in red, green and silver, if you don't see what your looking for just ask and we'll hook you up!

We also have our fun Oilcloth Christmas Stockings again this year, all of which are on sale this year!

Oilcloth Coin Purses

They're baaaaccck... oilcloth coin purses are back. They were always such a hit so we asked our dear ol' Junie, Anne Margret, to come  back and whip up some zippers for us. (you see, I don't do zippers) Our zipper queen admitted that she was a bit burnt out after zipping up 100 coin purses in August. We sold more than half of them at the Country Living Fairs but we've got plenty left of the holidays.

Think girlfriends, stockings and office mates when you think oilcloth coin purses! Go with an appliqued or a simple oilcloth print, either way the girls on your gift list will love one!

Thankful for my customers!

Isn't this a wonderful use for our Chalk Cloth Table Runners? Laura from Finding Home has totally inspired me, I have a runner on the table right now, so at dinner tonight we will be giving thanks!

Only one!

I only have one new apron for you today, but isn't a cutie? The matryoshka dolls are irresistible so I couldn't help but to make a stacking doll applique!  Where are the other two I promised to list? Well we got our long awaited oilcloth order in today so I spent the day cutting 10 tablecloths instead of taking photos! Too make up for my lack of new aprons I went though our inventory and relisted several aprons from earlier this year.  Check out our apron section! See ya tomorrow.

Fall fun!

I am going to try and catch up on the blog this week!  Here are a few photos from picking pumpkins from a few weeks ago, it's an annual family treat! What's not to love? It's a day filled with hay rides, pumpkin picking, watching Don walk three steps with an arm full of pumpkins (all-you-can carry for $20) and fresh homemade doughnuts!  I can still taste the powdered sugar of it all! (Sorry, the kids banned all powder sugar doughnut eating pics from the blog... I don't know why?)
