The "There's a lot going on" day!!!

That quote says it all. Yesterday was one of those days, a lot "went" on. It was a bittersweet day. One minute it was crazy, the next boring, the next peaceful and with a lot of fun in the mix too.

It started off at WTVR, where was I was showing the RCM wares on TV for a "Mother's Day Gift Guide." Thinking that it had to go better than last time, I was prepared and calm for the show. Best laid plans... I was totally thrown off balance by having only 2.5 minutes to set up 15 products. I just could not do it -- it was so impossible that the fabulous host of the show, Greg, came to my rescue, got the producer to "go to weather" first, and then the kind man helped me set up. We did it in 4.5 minutes. AAAhhhh, FREAK OUT!

Once outside, I needed a big meltdown so I dashed off to near by parking lot near by for a good stress cry. Silly but necessary. Next to the parking lot was the coolest building for rent, and fabulous! The perfect studio space for Modern June. A detached- mid century office building with great natural light, 4-6 minutes from my home. Just dreaming for now, but you know I am calling to find out the rent. Working at home is really the only option for now, but someday it would be nice.

I came home with Krispy Kreame doughnuts and a got a heroes welcome from my kids. Was it the doughnuts or the fact that Mommy was just on TV that awarded me this honor.? We all laid around chatting about the challenges of live TV and then surfed flickr for a while. The kids found this set of photos,
featuring a really cool Missing Monster, very inspirational and set to off to create a stop motion animation piece. 350 photos later we went out for lunch.

We did take-out from Ukrops, Don and I enjoyed a nice quite lunch for two on the front porch. I love my front porch table, its just perfect for a quick meal!

Then it was off to a 2 hour long doctors visit that was so very exhausting! Never a dull moment in Mommy Land.

On the way home, Don and I checked out my "future studio space" -- he didn't like the stray dog, but loved the building. Once home, he took the kiddies to Maymont and I was actually bored for about 30 minutes! Too exhausted to get any work done I called my best friend Christi for a life update.

We then all had dinner together, before I dashed off to the Craft Lounge for friendship and a Margarita! This was fun but I was a bit spent by this time of the day.

All and all a lot went on! I need a day off to recover from my day off!

I get loads of wisdom from my wee ones.

Like...

"Your studio was better arranged the old way." said Aidan in the car one day. He was so right, I rearranged the room the next day.

And "You should just go down and sew because the faster you get to work the faster you will be done." said Maddie when I was sick earlier this week

But the best one so far was last night when all I wanted was to go to bed instead of cutting out my remaining cherrylicious apron orders....

"You know what you should do Mommy? You should design a totally new apron, ( I LOL) no really with new fabric and a new shape. You should do that now."

Oh my! that cracked me up. And the funny thing is he was right again, that was exactly what I do to keep it fresh. When I have a hard time getting something completed I often need to make some thing totally out of the blue instead of finishing the order. This way I can actually go back and do the order really well, I am all refreshed and back to my crafty goodness. It is like my version of writers block I guess. Well I did not take his advise this time but I am taking Maddies! Cherry aprons are on the way!

FYI I am making an extra diner apron so if you want one for Christmas tell that man of yours to go and grab it quick!

Order Up!

Etsy God!

Rob Kalin, founder of Etsy.com has been interviewed by Wallstrip check it out! This is a good interview for the skinny on Esty founder and CEO! They really gave him some screen time and they asked some great questions! I love this mans philosophy! Thanks to Rob and his team we crafters can start to rule the world! (Insert evil laugh here!)

A "green" bowl

I have a list that I keep with things I want to do when I am not super busy. I call it the "To Do In January List". At the top of the list is: to really homeschool my kids well. But that is not up for discussion here, at least not now!

On the list are many practical items to do, like spruce up all of my patterns. Make some new patterns (I couldn't help but start this process already, cuz I don't have enough to do!) :P Go after some new wholesale opportunities. And of course, sleep.

But, there are some fun things to do too. I want to make these bowls that I found while checking out my blog reading list. You know how it goes, you read something at one great blog and then you end up at some other cool blog to only end up some where else really fantastic. Well, I have ended up at A Little Hut a few times, what a great blog! So pretty and full of great crafty goodness. These bowls are fab! I love a good tutorial.

I can't wait, but I will try. I can see the kids and I spending a cold winter's day making these while listening to a good audio book. (after a nice long and thoughtful day of homeschooling of course.)

Special thanks to Patricia for letting me share all this with everyone.

Forgive me I'm venting!

Ok you know that really stupid post about my silly post it notes well guess what it doesn't work if you don't pay attention to it. I tell you what today has been a complete waste of time. I have not sat down for more than 5 minutes but I can't think of one silly thing that I have accomplished.

The weekend was a blur too! Saturday was the Centerville Pumpkin Festival what a beautiful day we had! Well minus the wind that destroyed my already ailing tent. After my serious hissy fit I had a great time hanging with the crafty girls that I shared my booth with. The photo above show the three muses at it again, we agreed that we were not tired, bitter or angry this time around. Well Nicole was tired and I had been pretty bitter and angry about my tent but I rallied! And Diva E (also known to the Richmond Craft Mafia's inner circle EASY E), well Erica is just so damn cute and happy she was not tired, bitter nor angry. Good things not to be! Too bad Dawn had come and gone and could not be added to our picture. She was tired from a work week from hell.

Sunday was crazy fun and tiring! I had to unpack the van which was like pulling teeth. But once I got up from a quick nap we went to Kings Dominion with the family. We had 4 pre paid ticket to use up! It was again a wonderfully beautiful day. It is hard to remember that it is the last week of October when it is 80 plus degrees. We had so much fun at the park, it was nice to be away from home, there was no sewing machine, computer or TV. I held on to my kids like crazy, they have been missing me and I have missed them too!

You know your working too hard when your 7 year old tells you he wishes that Modern June wasn't real, cuz mommy is never able to be with him. Yikes that hurts and it only the beginning of the really busy season. What is a mommy to do? I feel so bad but I love what I doing. Don, god love him, says he is proud of my work but is constantly asking me to stop working so hard. How does one make the masses happy?

And now to top it all off my studio seems to be suffering plumbing problem. Tonight I just spent 2 hours cleaning up ( a complete dester after a week of mad sewing and me dumping my show stuff any where there was a piece of floor.) I also was getting my projects in order when all of a sudden I have to remove half the junk out of the Bathroom storage room (yes you heard correctly I took over a bathroom in order to have more storage). Now it is all over my work space. I really need to clean out a space in the shed and store stuff in there!

Time, I need LOTS OF TIME! CALGON get me the hell out of here! NOW! Pity party complete! I need a good cry and some chocolate and now it is not even that time of the month! Rant over chocolate consumed and my silly little novel is waiting me in my comfy bed. Tomorrow has to be better right? Knock on wood!
