On Saturday and Sunday I had the honor of sharing Sewing with Oilcloth at four booths at Quilt Market! We started with a book signing in the Oilcloth International on Saturday morning. It was so very nice to hang out with those wonderful ladies! Then in the afternoon I did demos at United Notions and Checkers Distributors.
Here I am on Sunday at the Brewer Booth. It's so much fun to share my love for the slick stuff.
I am a very happy author!
We had a very good time!!
We gave out over 120 signed copies of Sewing with Oilcloth that weekend with the hopes that the fabric shop owners would go home be able to educate their shoppers in just how much fun this fabric is. You know me, I am just trying to get more members for the Oilcloth Addict club.
Team Wiley! Publishers of love, crafty goodness, and Sewing with Oilcloth!! These hard working people made the weekend delightful. I am very lucky gal!!!
Honesty, I couldn't have had more fun or meet nicer people. Thanks Quilt Market, Oilcloth International and Wiley for having me!!!
On Saturday night the newest Wiley authors were treated to party!
It was great to meet all some really great people after a long day at market.
I really wish that all the photos that I took had came out better, maybe instead of party pics
you could indulge me with a little name dropping!
I got to hang out with...
Karen LePage, Co-Author of Sewing for Boys
Kathie Sever, Co-Author of Make Stuff Together
Cardie and Anjelica from Oilcloth International
Anna Maria Horner (she knew my name!)
Jacinda from Prudent Baby
Patty Young
Kristen Link!! from Sew Mama Sew
Rashida Colman-Hale from I heart Linen
Colleen, Jack and Christine from Team Wiley
I am a ashamed to say that I have lost my stack of business cards and most of brain since QM. So please forgive me for not mentioning the rest of you by name. You know who you are! Please email me your contact info!! It was great to meet you.
The party was great, it was so laid back and the Treehouse was a great space! My new friend Jack (the sales guy from Wiley) played the role of dad and told us all not to stay up too late. I kinda wish that I had listened to him, because getting up Sunday was a bit difficult on very little sleep. Come back tomorrow and see my photos from my demo, I don't look too tired. (fingers crossed)
It was an honor to wrap up my Sewing with Oilcloth book tour at Quilt Market in Houston last month. I apologize for just getting this blog post up, I've been in home reno hell since I got of the plane. I really wanted to do the experience justice so I've been saving it for today.
My time at QM started with a round of Schoolhouses. Sweet Home Quilt describes what a schoolhouse is perfectly.
Sweet Home Quilt: The day before quilt market opens is always dedicated to Schoolhouse, which is basically an all day series of lecture/demo/infomercials from vendors, manufacturers and designers. It is a great opportunity to get a sneak peek at new products and glean ideas for the shop, but it is also exhausting…sort of like taking a full load of classes in college and having back-to-back classes all day…learning is hard work!!!
I couldn't miss Anna Maria Horner talk about the new ribbons, fabric and needlepoint projects.
She's just so cute!! And, oh so sweet, more on that later!!
This quilt is made out of the velveteen. Yum!
Laminated Cotton Rain Coat for kids! Love the Tart print more than any other!
I loved listening to Kathy Miller chat about colorways for all the new Micheal Miller fabrics.
She's just amazing! I didn't get a lot of great photos but my local fabric shop,
David Butler, aka Mr. Amy Butler, has a great new line of fabric Parson Gray.
I really want this on LAMINATED COTTON!!
I am stopped by to tell him that too. Aren't they a beautiful couple?
I stopped into see my fellow Wiley author, Karen LePage introduce her new book, Sewing with Boys.
Karen is totally cool, I loved hanging out with her at the Wiley book release party!!
And then it was my turn!!! Yikes! Oh my, this was crazy. You literally have 1 to 2 minutes to set up. Did I mention that during those few minutes you are working around the people that have just finished the previous Schoolhouse? Stressful!!
All day I worried that no one would come and see my little talk about Sewing with Oilcloth, imagine my glee, terror, and excitement when I looked up and the place was packed. OMG, how awesome that was. I am still in shock at how excited people are about oilcloth. Oilcloth Addicts unite!!
Here I am talking about the 4 top tips that make Sewing With Oilclotheasy and fun! You only need a:
I brought all the samples I could get on the plane!
I promise, I wasn't dancing!!
There were so many questions and a lot of note taking!! I just loved connecting with the fabric store owners. As I see it, it's my job is to help shop owners go back and sell this cool fabric!! Like I said earlier, Oilcloth Addicts unite!!
I can't even tell you how much darn fun I had a few weeks ago at Whipstitch! Located in Mid-Town Atlanta you will find a lovely fabric shop and sewing boutique, owned by the super cute Deborah Moebes.
Look at this sweet little spot I got to hang out with a bunch of new friends!
I want to embroider something!!
Classroom of love!!
Lovely laminated cotton.
Hoopla!!!
I really want to live here!
Deborah is such a sweetie!!
Wow, did we have a ton of fun!!!
Meet one of the pattern tester for Sewing with Oilcloth, April Forshee.
Let me just start this by telling you that I am the happiest book author in the world! The next stop on my book tour is in Houston, Texas. In just a few days time I get to share my new book, Sewing with Oilcloth, with all the lovely people attending Quilt Market!! If you are coming please come to the following booths and visit me. I'd love to meet you!!!
Friday, October 28th:
3:10 to 3:40 Schoolhouse
Saturday, October 29th:
10:00-10:30 Book Signing at Oilcloth International
We have got some really (REALLY) awesome events coming up LIVE at Whipstitch in the next few weeks, and they all start this Wednesday. Are you ready? Kelly McCants, author of Sewing with Oilcloth, will be in the shop signing copies of her book and sharing her tips and trade secrets for working with these fabrics. Many of us think "oilcloth" and we think of icky, plasticky picnic tablecloths, but that couldn't be further from the modern truth! The 20 projects Kelly has put together in her book, using traditional oilcloth and the very popular laminated cottons that are out now, will change your mind. Meet Kelly, have some snacks on us, get some insider tips, and pick up a signed copy of the book!
While I in Columbus at the Country Living Fair last month I had the pleasure of doing a book signing at Sew to Speak. While I was there I took a few photos of Aprils lovely fabric shop, I am just sorry it's taken me so long to share all the eye candy with you all!! If your ever in Columbus, Ohio you have to go do some shopping and say hi for me.
April had a comfy little corner set up for with a few gifts for her loyal customers, along with a copy of Sewing with Oilcloth she gave away several bundles of oilcloth fat quarters. You know I liked that!!
Cheery little corner filled with some very fun laminated cottons.
So very pretty, all of this makes me want to sit down at my machine and sew all day.
I love, love, love every bit of this ribbon.
Isn't this space completely inspiring? A big thanks to April for having me and to all her customers that came to see me at the shop and later in the weekend at the Country Living Fair. It was an honor!!
