My FAB new bag!

 

How much fun is my new bag? I am totally in love with it! I got it from Alex from Hello Bluebird at the Spring Bada-bing show!! I was so excited to see her again, we meet two years ago at the BMAC when she opened up her brick and mortar shop in Reading, PA where she offers lots of goodies made by her community of talented artists!!! Her mission statement makes me giddy, they are truly words to live by!!

How cute is this shop? Notice anything familiar? Alex says that the party banners are still hanging up! LOVE IT!

Silk Rainbow Goodness!

Here's just one of the fun finds that I found at yesterday's Spring Bada-bing show!!! It's a darn good thing that I know where to find my friend Crystal, I really regret not getting one of these Crystal J Silk scarves! (Mothers Day Hint: the skinny scarf in aqua was my favorite!)

crafting homeschool style

This is what craft time is looks like when you combine a Zelda obsessed boy that loves to build with a mom that loves to make patterns. (I think that this counts as an introduction to Geometry, don't you?) 

My boy-child has been reading the Legend of Zelda series for about two weeks now and he is totally obsessed with all things Zelda. After days of intense research he's decided to make a Mask of Truth. You know how that turned out right? I made the mask and he art directed. What a cleaver boy!

Someday we'll cover this with paper mache and paint it, but for now, he's making a set of wings to go with the mask. He's on his own for that project. ; )

Hoopla Pot Holders

I've been having a lot of fun with my pre-cuts that I won from Sew4Home. Don't you just love the Hoopla prints? They are just do darn happy!!

I used the Hoopla Layer Cake pieces and some squares of insulated interfacing that I had hiding away in my stash for about two years to make this up. (Thankfully I never throw anything away)

I'll have these available at the upcoming Spring Bada Bing show on April, 17th. If there are any left after the show, I'll add them to the shop.

Look at all this fun fabric that I won from Sew 4 Home last month. I won a ton of pre cut's from Moda's cheerful Hoopla fabric line. It's such fun fabric--I've been using it for some new projects for the upcoming Spring Bada Bing show. Come back tomorrow and I show you what I've made so far!

This used to be a really cute t-shirt but it got piled and all stretched out at the neckline, so I cut it into four 8" strips and zig-zagged them together. Voila! A new spring scarf for those in-between days.

I love a 10 minute project! Happy sewing.

spring has sprung

 

You gotta love an early spring! I wish my little plum (?) tree that I planted for my son Aidan bloomed all year round, it makes me so happy and thankful.  It's almost as pretty in the early evening, it glows in the darkness like a puffy tree of cotton candy. 

Recent Acquisitions!

I've been a burnt out for about 3-4 months now so I decided to shut Modern June down for an extended Spring Break!!! Meanwhile, I'll be doing some things that I love (shop for vintage linens), some things that I want to do (totally redo the studio) and some things that I have to do (loads of paper work and taxes)!

Today I took a few hours to wandered aimlessly through most of the shops on Lakeside. As usual, the antiques, consignment, gift and antique shops were all filled with fun loot. I found some sweet vintage linens that make me very happy and seriously inspired!

I've been loving on this sweet little bunting made of vintage hankies that I saw over at Ohdeedoh. A little something just for me. See what else is inspiring me at my Pinterest page!!

Reminds me of oilcloth...

 

I found this on the front page of Etsy today and it reminded me of Mexican oilcloth. You know how I love that!!! The Wheat Field shop is filled with lovely prints and cards, but Mountain Bouquet is my favorite.

Local Shops: Feathernesters

Marc and Tony at Feathernesters, let Meghan and I take over the shop so we could take pretty pictures for my book, Sewing with Oilcloth!! 

The fella's have the shop decked out for spring!

The best thing about this shop is all the little "rooms" that are nestled within the old vintage doors and furniture.

And then there are the really big rooms filled with pretty, pretty fun! 

Don't forget the garden shed! Those chairs look familiar!

Frilly pink fun. I did a trunk show at Feathernesters once, and every single thing I sold was pink! Not a lie! Those ladies that frequent this shop love their pink!!!

Junie Brunch!

I can't believe that it's been two weeks since I've had a minute to blog! It hasn't been all work though--I've had a whole lot of fun too! I was able to treat my Junies (my lovely shippers, cutters and stitchers) to brunch at Feathernesters. It was great to spend the morning sharing a meal with my wonderful friends and colleagues.

 

Remember all that cotton fabric that I enjoyed playing around with back in January? Well I turned it all into some fun little gift bags filled with Feathernesters' homemade fudge, recipe cards, and veggie bags.

We had a lot of giggly fun. I am a lucky girl to have such have such a good team!!

I am totally excited to have our laminated cotton tablecloths and splat mats back. We have 12 prints to choose from and more coming every couple of weeks. In true Modern June fashion the tablecloths are trimmed out in contrasting cotton bias for a polished and professional look.

Laminated cotton is THE hot new fabric--it’s a friendly fabric that makes fabulous tablecloths and splat mats. Because it’s BPA-free, PVC-free and food safe, it's CPSIA compliant and great for family use. This thinner, and more supple oilcloth is a high-quality quilting-weight cotton print, coated with a thin layer of polyurethane on the fabric’s right side.

CARE: Laminated Cottons are machine washable but we suggest that you wipe it clean for a longer lasting product. Upon arrival you may want to iron the tablecloth from the back side, using a press cloth (important) and a dry, medium-temp iron. Store rolled.

My sweet little valentine's

After months and month of chaos, things are starting to even out a bit, and I've been cooking for my family a bit more. So, for Valentine's Day I decided to treat every one to a make-your-own pizza bar. Yeah, I know I didn't really do all the cooking, but it's a lot better than calling for take out.

Before I started, I whipped up a new pastry mat with some food-safe laminated cotton. Check out the how to at my Oilcloth Addict Blog.

 I also planned ahead and ordered some Whoopie Pies from Etsy Featured Seller Whipped Bakeshop. Aidan said that they were so good they should be illegal! The were totally de-lish!

A few weeks ago I bought some of the pretty Country Lane fabric from Bari J and we quickly used it to make some very pretty aprons.
